Draft One of Web page
Ok, Tony signed us up for our REAL URL for the website, but until we have SOMETHING that we are all agreed upon, I have posted Draft One of the main web page at a TEMPORARY location. The page is AT THE TEMPORARY LOCATION HERE: http://tartan.edinboro.edu/~erichardson/vcpj20050508.html
Please take a look at it.
A few notes ...
(1) I included on the page what we discussed in the meeting and nothing more. We did not come to definite decisions on the wording for all of the headings so that is a matter we can discuss here.
(2) You will notice I placed a "dummy" banner that just says BANNER at the top of the page. Obviously, the REAL banner will go there when it has been created.
(3) I will try to make the left navigation bar 'float' (i.e. stay on the screen in the same place as you scroll up or down the screen). I need to look up the code for this.
(4) We did not say anything about the colors of the page during our meeting, so that will have to be decided.
(5) The page will look different on different computer monitors, and may not display properly in all browsers. When you post or email me comments about the look of the page, the following information would really help me:

re: buying code
Tony, I'm sure we all appreciate your enthusiasm for all of these products and services that can be purchased, but I really do not think there is a need for a lot of fancy features. Considering the only web presence we have ever had was last year in March when I created a couple of pages with info about a rally and a war resistors panel that VCPJ sponsored, I think that we can create a small and simple but adequate website without spending money on a bunch of features.
re: font sizes
I agree that the fonts could be smaller but I'll wait a bit to see what other comments and suggestions we get.
Tony,
When I think of open source code, I guess I tend to think of programming. I used to belong to a Linux/Unix users group, for example, although I was just along for the ride or to glean what little I could as most of the other members knew a LOT more than I did.
I never knew of HTML tags being a secret, so I didn't think it was a big deal to share them. you can find lots of books and lots of web pages that show you how to use HTML tags and even the javascript to do a lot with web pages. So, when you ask whether if looked for open source code and we're only talking about a markup language [HTML], I'm not sure what you are asking.
I would agree that the marquee is overused on some pages, but it is an attention getter (when used sparingly) ...
Since we haven't decided on the main color scheme, it is hard to say at this point what color would stand out. I could put it in a little box with a different color background and different color text instead of using the marquee. I can also make the appearance change on mouseover but that will only get attention if, in fact, somebody runs their mouse over it.
